About Rain School

August 2010 at Rainring Cards

I’ve had to keep deleting posts here as they eventually getting spammed, and I can’t stand that. So I’m putting this out now, but no doubt it will end up shortly being transferred to the ‘news’ page.

I’m delighted to be able to announce that I’ve finished the first side of the third page of the directory laminate. In other words, I’ve done 16 mentions, one for each side of each of the four ex-grid cards – two of which have never appeared on the web, even as images. So the last phase of this work, the mentions for the umpires, now awaits me. I’ve just negotiated a change in my working hours effective from the end of September, so that I will at last have the conditions needed to do this work. I would very much like to have it finished by late autumn, if all goes well.

My daughter made a video of Hacina and I reading Rainring almost two years ago now, but she didn’t want us to publish it because the mike was picking up the sound of cars on the main road where we used to live. She’s spent the intervening period being pregnant and having a baby, and lives far away from us, to make things even more difficult. However, we have provisionally set up a window to redo this work in September, so I hope we may have some video of Rainring in action to post on You Tube before too long. In fact, I would like to buy a video camera myself, since I feel that this is definitely the way to go to bring Rainring to a wider public. We’ll see whether or not anything will come of this. As you know, I am not the greatest at carrying out my plans at the speed I hope for them.

In fact, the above raises the still unresolved issue of the sound recording and hence online teaching problems. Again, fingers crossed I will be able to get this sorted soon, using some of the money due to arrive from my exertions this summer.

I’m starting to feel bad about expressing all these unfulfilled plans. It’s time to shut up and try to make some of these things actually happen!
